The North Florida men’s baseball team brought home two wins from their three-game series against the Lipscomb Bisons in Nashville, Tennessee.
In the first game on Friday, April 10 North Florida (27-12, 6-3) battled all the way to the ninth inning to grab the 4-3 victory over Lipscomb (20-13, 2-4), extending their winning streak to seven. UNF’s Patrick Ervin singled up the middle in the top of the ninth, driving in Trent Higginbothem for the game-winning run. Keith Skinner and Donnie Dewees both hit home runs in the second and fourth innings respectively.
The Bisons brought an end to the Ospreys’ winning streak in game two on April 11 with a crushing 11-3 victory. The game was tied at 3-3 going into the bottom half of the sixth inning, when the Bisons went on an eight-run crusade. The Ospreys would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game, totaling just five hits.
North Florida came back in game three with a vengeance, shutting out the Bisons 8-0. In a defensive performance, the Ospreys had three double plays stopping the Bisons from getting on the board. Osprey pitcher Matt Vaka earned his second win of the season.
The Ospreys, now tied with FGCU for first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference, will be heading home for a non-conference bout against Florida A&M, whom they recently defeated just last week in Tallahassee, Florida. The game is set for Tuesday, April 14 at 5 p.m. in Harmon Stadium.
