The University of North Florida women’s basketball team hosted Kennesaw State University on Feb. 14 at UNF Arena. The last of a three-game homestand, the game ended 64-52 and the Owls took the win.
During the first half, the lady Ospreys played strong defense and were able to gain control several times. However they were unable to maintain their stance and trailed by eight points at the end of the first half.
UNF continued to fight during the second half and cut down the deficit multiple times. It was not enough though, because Kennesaw State took a 17-point lead with one minute to go. UNF managed another five points but was unable to recover.
Saturday was the Osprey’s Play 4Kay game, where the team and attendants to the game were encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness. It was also Senior Day and notable players include seniors Paulina Zaveckaite, putting up 18 points and nine rebounds, and Destinee Smith with 17 points herself.
The squad hits the road now and will head to Nashville, Tenn. They will play Lipscomb University at Allen Arena on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
