65 acres were torched near 295 just South of the UNF campus today, but the fire was brought under control without any damage to homes. Smoke could be seen for miles, and there was increased police presence at the end of Kernan boulevard to keep people away from the scene.
Jacksonville area Florida Forest Service (FFS) Public Information Officer (PIO) Annaleasa Winter tweeted at 4:04 PM that the FFS was fighting a fire on a private property, saying no homes were threatened.

According to @JFRDIncidents, a twitter account that tracks incidents involving the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department (JFRD), JFRD was on-scene around 1 p.m.

The account went on to say that the fire was jumping control lines, and command had called in the FFS for support.
Additional equipment, including a helicopter and tractors assisted in getting the blaze under control
The FFS announced around 4:30 p.m. that the fire had been 100% contained.
