Beau Beech is inching closer to an NBA roster, signing a one-year, partially-guaranteed contract with the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.

Beech, who put up 8.8 points per game during his three summer league games, will play for the Nets’ D-League affiliate in Long Island. He will still have to fight for a final roster position, which will be difficult according to The Brooklyn Game, a news source dedicated to comprehensive Nets coverage.

The deal offers Beech an opportunity for development and more stability with the Nets. By signing him to an NBA-level contract (as opposed to a D-League), the Nets ensure that Beech can’t be picked-up and signed by another team. This will allow the Nets to shift Beech between their pro team and the D-League team to build his skills as needed, without the worry of losing him to someone else.

Beech would become the first UNF player to play in the NBA, if he makes the Brooklyn Nets roster.
