Last year, Spinnaker exclusively interviewed Nancy Soderberg, a current UNF faculty administrator who is running for Congress about her plans if she got elected. Soderberg is currently running for the 6th Congressional District in Florida as a Democratic representative.

Up until December, Ron DeSantis (R), the current representative of the district, was going to re-run for the seat. However, DeSantis recently announced he is looking at a higher position as Florida Governor, and will be focusing on that.

With the number one Republican pick focusing on a higher position, other Republicans are quickly rushing to run for the congressional race. Republicans Robert Jones and Fredrick Costello just filed to run for the seat. This past week Stephen Sevigny (D) and John Upchruch (D) also filed to run for the seat.

Soderberg is the only candidate who has reported her financial contributions for 2017. The year-end reports are due Jan. 31 before candidates can go on the ballot.

There are a total of eight candidates so far. These candidates include Robert Coffman (D), Jeremy Kelly (R), John Ward (R), and Michael Waltz (R).

The primary election will be on Aug. 28 and the general election will be on Nov. 6.
