The UNF Faculty Association Academic Committee held its final meeting of the semester on April 26.

The meeting began with Chairwoman Kim Cheek reviewing changes that had taken place at the previous meeting on April 5, where a new minor and new major were approved.

The first agenda item was an approved new minor in Jewish Studies. The minor also features several new supplementary courses to be utilized in the future, such as American Judaism, Jewish and Islamic Philosophy in the Classical Tradition, and Jewish and Islamic thought.

Additionally, both a Sculpture minor and a new Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience major were approved. Both tracks of study will be implemented with the curriculum consisting of pre-existing courses rather than new ones.

A new concentration in Coastal and Port Engineering within the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering major is to be re-submitted for future approval, pending a review of the availability of required courses.

Aside from new programs, several additional courses were submitted for approval by representatives of various UNF schools.

Some courses approved by the committee include Tonal Improvisation in the School of Music, Teaching Students with Exceptionalities in Secondary Education in the College of Education, and Global Sexuality and Reproductive Health for Graduate Studies in the Brooks College of Health.

All aforementioned programs and courses will tentatively be offered by spring 2019 pending approval at various university and statewide levels.
