UNF Clery Act Committee reflects on other universities’ mistakes
November 16, 2018
The Clery Act committee met on Nov. 15 to discuss general business from their last meeting and the University of Montana’s Clery Act audit.
The University of Montana is being fined nearly $1 million dollars for clery act violations. UM reportedly had “inaccurate and misleading” crime statistics listed in their annual security report.
“It is beneficial for UNF to review so we can learn from the mistakes of others in an effort to do things in the most professional manner possible here at UNF.” UNFPD Chief Francis Mackesy said.
“As for not properly reporting the crime numbers, I can assure that on my watch, UPD will never purposely compromise the integrity of the University or the UPD by willfully falsifying or under reporting crime numbers,” Mackesy explained. “They are what they are and will be closely evaluated to determine what type of effort needs to be taken to reduce future crimes.”
