The North Florida Ospreys stifled the Lipscomb Lady Bisons for a much needed conference road win Tuesday with the final score of 68-53.

The Lady Bisons opened the game with two free throws, before going scoreless for nearly the entire first quarter.  They were held without a field goal by a stingy Ospreys defense before finally scoring with eight seconds remaining in the quarter.

UNF scored 19 straight points, extending a lead to 19-2 before Lipscomb hit a three to break the scoring drought.

Lipscomb slowly climbed back into the game during the second quarter, getting baskets inside and taking advantage of UNF misses and turnovers.

The Ospreys opened the third quarter with nine straight points, stretching the lead to 20.

The fourth quarter featured much of the same; excellent Osprey defense and Lipscomb continuously struggling from the field.  The end of the third quarter saw the Ospreys shooting 43 percent for the game, and the Lady Bisons only 28 percent.

Lipscomb, however, would not go away, closing to within 13 points with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Junior Carleigh Short kept her team within striking distance, going 7-16 in three pointers to shoulder the offensive load and finish with 21 points to lead the Lady Bisons.

The Osprey defense was just too much, forcing 21 turnovers and scoring 14 points off them.

Junior Jazz Bond led the Ospreys with 23 points.

UNF improves to 6-7 (1-1 ASUN), and returns home to host Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday, January 12 at 1 p.m.
