UNF has been recognized as a top tier of national universities by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. According to a UNF press release on January 16, 2018, UNF was recognized as place of prestige for its doctoral programs.

In past years, the institution listed UNF as a “Master’s University”, but for the first time, UNF has been recognized as a “Doctoral/Professional University”. According to the release, only 163 universities of 4,425 institutions are listed in this category.

UNF President David Szymanski emphasized the Carnegie distinction as a way for UNF to shine on the national stage.

“This is a huge step forward for UNF as an institution of national distinction,” said President Szymanski. “The prestige associated with a higher-level Carnegie status helps attract faculty and students who seek excellence. This classification also elevates the value of a UNF degree in the eyes of prospective employers.”

UNF offers doctoral degrees from Brooks College of Health and the College of Education and Human Services. The university awarded 117 doctoral degrees in 2017-2018.
