The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers made a travel request of $2,465 to attend a conference in Indianapolis, IN. for Oct. 30-Nov. 2.
The travel request was heard in Senate because it failed to be heard in the Oct. 4 B&A meeting.
The five students going will learn how to reach out to public high-schools and engage incoming college students in STEM degrees (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The request was approved 24-8.
Margarita Hernandez, SHPE President, said, “STEM degrees are in high-demand by employers, but low in supply in terms of graduating college students.”
