UPDATE – 8/31/15 at 10:25 p.m.
According to the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office on-scene report, patrol officers responded to a shooting and burglary around 11:40 p.m. on the west side of Beach Blvd. Upon their arrival, the officers found both the victim, Nicholas Hare, and the suspect suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim’s girlfriend, who contacted the police in the aftermath of the events, told the officers that she and the victim were inside her residence when they heard a loud noise. The suspect entered the residence, came into the bedroom and shot the victim in the head before shooting himself in the head
The victim was deceased on the scene, but the suspect survived his suicide attempt and was transported to UF Health Hospital in life-threatening condition.

UNF senior Nicholas Hare died on Aug. 28 after being shot by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Later that night, the suspect attempted suicide.
According to a GoFundMe in Hare’s name, Hare was 34 years old and a civil engineering student in his last year at UNF. Dean of Students Thomas Van Schoor confirmed his enrollment and major.
