Ice cream is the perfect treat to keep cool and bear the dog days of summer. Fortunately, Jacksonville is home to a handful of great ice cream shops that are worth the trip. Stop by one of these spots for a tasty frozen dessert.
Rated as 2015’s #1 ice cream parlor in Florida, Dreamette specializes in soft serve ice cream where customers can add toppings from sprinkles to fruit and caramel to fudge. Also, add another layer of flavor with a dipping shell. The Atlantic Beach and Mandarin locations accept credit cards while the Westside location only takes cash.
Stop by Five F(x) if you’re in the Baymeadows area for a custom-made, frosty treat. After you select a base (milk, yogurt, soy or almond) and a flavor, the mixture is then taken to a deep freezer where ice cream is made right before your eyes. Five F(x) is also known for its taiyaki. You can fill these fish-shaped waffle pastries with anything from Nutella to raspberry to cream cheese. Think of it as a freshly made pop tart.

Cold Stone is famous for it’s signature creations, boasting creamy ice cream and fresh toppings mashed together on a cold slab. There are 20 signature creations to choose from including a loaded peanut butter, mint chocolate, coffee, and banana caramel flavors.
Arguably the best frozen yogurt in Jax. The flavors are always a plenty and the topping bar is always a poppin’. This little hole in the wall in Atlantic Beach serves authentic Hawaiian shaved ice piled high with fruit. On Wednesdays, you can score a free large shaved ice after buying one for yourself. Ohana also makes Halo-halo, a Filipino dessert made of shaved ice and evaporated milk that’s mixed in with fruits and jellies.
A custard lover’s dream. You can find all different flavors of custard here with a new special flavor featured every day. Some featured flavors are coffee, sea salt caramel, raspberry, key lime pie, chocolate, mint, and more. Portions are huge and guests are welcomed to customize their treats with fresh fruits, nuts, and candies.
