Men’s Basketball Preview: North Florida faces NJIT in first round of ASUN Tournament

The Ospreys (13-18 Overall, 7-7 ASUN) travel to Newark, New Jersey to battle the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders (14-15 Overall, 7-7 ASUN) in the first round of the ASUN Tournament tonight.

North Florida heads into Monday night’s game following an 86-81 defeat to Jacksonville.  Sophomore guard Garrett Sams scored 19 points in the loss. Ivan Gandia-Rosa also leads the Ospreys in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game.

NJIT returns home after an 76-67 victory over the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans. Freshman guard Shawndale Jones scored 13 points in the win. Anthony Tarke currently leads the Highlanders with 15.2 points per game, after Thursday’s contest.

In the previous match up on Feb. 17, The Birds of Trey beat the Highlanders at the UNF Arena 86-75. Gandia-Rosa scored 23 points and three rebounds in the win.

Winner of tonight’s game will go on to play the winner of the the FGCU and USC Upstate matchup.

The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Wellness and Events Center.
