The UNF Men’s Soccer team was outmatched by the FIU Panthers 5-3 on Sunday night, Sep. 23.

Throughout the first half, FIU maintained control of the ball by scoring four goals.  In the fifth minute, the Panthers scored early on a goal by Santiago Patino.

FIU added two more goals until Junior Mike Connell countered with a free -kick goal from 20 yards out to put the Ospreys on the board, 3-1.

The Panthers finished out the half with a goal by Joris Ahlinvi at the forty-second minute.

In the second half, the Ospreys got on the board with a header by Freshman Zane Bubb on an assist by Connell in the fifty-ninth minute, making it 4-2 to the Panthers.

FIU added another goal a minute later to extend the lead to 5-2.

In the closing minutes, Connell scored on a penalty kick (his fifth goal of the season) to make it 5-3 Panthers.  The Ospreys couldn’t answer after the PK and FIU won, 5-3.

Throughout the match, the Ospreys had to maintain a competitive mentality despite the score.

“Even through the blows, you’ve got to know that the game’s never over,” Connell said.

“I think we did some good things going forward, we scored three goals. We’ve also got to figure out our lineup. We have to look at the guys that played well and try to build off that and come up with a good eleven,” Coach Marinatos said.

The Ospreys play on Saturday, Sept. 29 on the road at Liberty at 7 p.m.
