On Tuesday, Sept. 11, campuses and communities across the country will be participating in memorials to remember the 2,977 lives that were lost on Sept. 11, 2001. This year marks the seventeenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that stunned our nation.

The UNF College Republicans will be hosting a memorial on the Green starting lasting from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. as part of the 9/11: Never Forget Project. The event will involve a prayer vigil, a moment of silence at 9:11 a.m. and the placement of flags into the ground—one flag for each life lost.

The project started in 2003 by the Young America’s Foundation as a response to how college campuses were treating the anniversary of a day that is easily identified as one of the most defining moment for the United States in the 21st century.
