Jaguars seek first win of the season in primetime division matchup
September 19, 2019
The Jaguars (0-2) will take on AFC South rival Tennessee Titans (1-1) in a Thursday night home matchup in Week 3.
Both teams are coming off close losses to AFC South opponents last weekend. The Jags fell to the Houston Texans on a late two-point conversion gamble after a touchdown. The Titans lost to the Indianapolis Colts after allowing a go-ahead touchdown late in the game.
The Jaguars have been embroiled in drama since the loss to the Texans. The morning after the game, star cornerback Jalen Ramsey requested to be traded. Rumors have been swirling all week about which teams are interested and what acquiring the young player will cost other teams. Ramsey is expected to play Thursday night.
Other big names expected to play include left tackle Cam Robinson who has missed 16 straight games since tearing his ACL early last season. Additionally, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, cornerback A.J. Bouye and wide receiver Marqise Lee also fully participated in practice this week and are expected to play in Thursday’s game.
One key player to watch is Gardner Minshew. The rookie from Washington State has impressed for two straight weeks after Nick Foles went down early in the season opener. Through two games, Minshew has thrown for 488 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78 percent of his passes. The rookie has shown that he can keep the team in situations to win. Tonight, he will be looking for his first career win.
For the Titans, running back Derrick Henry will likely be a large part of the game plan. In his last matchup against the Jaguars, the hometown running back totaled 238 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns, including a 99-yard run where he threw several Jaguars defenders to the ground.
Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday night at 8:20 p.m.
