Jaguars defense swallows Titans in primetime matchup

Zach Yearwood, Sports Reporter

The Jacksonville Jaguars earned their first win of the season this past Thursday night at home against the Tennessee Titans.

The Jaguars jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first two minutes after recovering a Titans muffed punt at the seven-yard line. They scored again in the first quarter when Gardner Minshew threw a 22-yard dime to DJ Chark.

Minshew has continued to impress fans and opponents. Despite everyone waiting for him to look like a rookie, the young quarterback has shown poise. He ended the night with 20 completions on 30 pass attempts for 204 yards and two touchdowns with what should have been a third touchdown dropped by the receiver.

Additionally, the Jaguars defensive line reminded everyone why it has been the most feared unit on the Jaguars team for the past two years. The team totaled nine sacks on the night, including three from Calais Campbell and two from rookie Josh Allen. Sacksonville is officially back.

Jalen Ramsey may have played his final game in a Jaguars uniform. The star cornerback requested a trade the day after the Jaguars’ loss to the Houston Texans. He recorded nine tackles and forced a fumble on Thursday. If Ramsey did play in his last game as a Jaguar, he gave fans a performance to remember.

This win marks the Jaguars’ first against the Titans in since the 2016 season. The division rivals have played each other four times in the two previous seasons, with the Titans emerging victorious all four times. Thursday’s match moves both team’s records to 1-2. The two teams will play each other again in Nashville in Week 12, the weekend of Thanksgiving.

The Jaguars will travel to Denver to play the Broncos on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m.
