A new sculpture by Erica Mendoza, a senior majoring in fine arts with a concentration in sculpture, was installed between Buildings 14 and 15 today. UNF commissioned a $1,000 grant to Mendoza for the installment of the piece.
The sculpture, entitled āGrounded Three,ā is made from sheet steel and is based on a series she has been working on, inspired by abstract flightless birds.
Mendoza originally proposed a two-toned pink color for her artwork but that idea was rejected by UNF Campus Committee on Public Art. Mendoza said the final chosen yellow color āappeals to the sky and idea of flight.ā
The sculpture was installed near the proposed relocation for the sculpture program, which will be located in the Physical Facilities building.
Mendoza expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, thanking UNF for āletting us do what we love.ā
